Alexandra Barto

Alexandra Barto makes handmade ceramic vessels with a focus on moon jar forms, each with unique and painterly surfaces. Created in stoneware clay on the potter's wheel, these jars are explorations of colour, texture and gesture. Using a dynamic process of layering slips, powder pigments and glazes over the surface, she aims to capture the energy of the making process and link the elemental nature of the clay and maker to the final piece. Each vessel is a one off piece of tactile art evocative of the nature that inspired it.

Alexandra works from her studio just outside Farnham, and she’s a member of Ceramicus, the Crafts Council Directory, Design Nation, Axisweb and the London Potters community. You can find her pieces in Lingwood Samuel Gallery in Godalming, Bel Fine Art in Winchester and White Chalk Gallery in Devizes.
